Smart waste management in Pula

Since late 2023, the city of Pula has been using an innovative smart‑waste‑management system. In close collaboration with our partner Gradatin d.o.o., a use case was implemented demonstrating how digital waste‑management solutions can enhance transparency, efficiency, and sustainability.

Project overview

Semi‑underground containers were equipped with access control to clearly regulate disposal processes.
Additionally – wherever required – intake drums with integrated access control were installed, enabling individual volume control per user. This gives the city full visibility into who disposes of waste and how much, while keeping the process simple for both residents and operators.

Access control: controls authorized access to the containers and prevents unauthorized use.

Intake drum with access control: limits the disposal volume per use and makes individual waste quantities fully traceable – a transparent basis for billing and planning. Intake Drum DMA7

Our close collaboration with Gradatin d.o.o. has been in place since 2023 and is characterized by clear communication, trust, and shared goals. The project in Pula, implemented at the end of 2024, represents a significant milestone and demonstrates the strength of this partnership in advancing digital waste‑management solutions.

Highlights

WASTE QUALITY

Accurate waste separation increases recycling rates and reduces residual waste.

TRANSPARENT BILLING

Intake-drum attachments enable user-specific control of disposal volumes.

MISUSE CONTROL

Access control protects against unauthorized use and helps prevent vandalism and misuse.

OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY

Better planning and smooth operation for municipalities and operators.

Benefits of (Semi-) underground containers

(Semi-) underground containers are an innovative solution for cities and municipalities that prioritize cleanliness, order, and efficiency in waste management. Thanks to their space‑saving installation below ground level, they blend harmoniously into the urban landscape while offering a large storage capacity for waste and recyclables.

With integrated access control, disposal processes can be clearly regulated: only authorized users can deposit waste. This prevents incorrect disposal, increases operational efficiency, and ensures greater transparency.

In addition to traditional access control, underground containers can also be equipped with intake‑drum attachments, enabling even more detailed control of disposal processes. This technology ensures that not only access is regulated, but also the exact volume of each individual disposal action is measured.

Through this volume control, every deposit can be assigned to a specific user or user group. This enables more efficient coordination of collection schedules, avoids overfilling, and optimizes collection routes.

(SEMI-) UNDERGROUND CONTAINERS SHOW HOW INTELLIGENT WASTE MANAGEMENT CAN SEAMLESSLY INTEGRATE INTO ANY ENVIRONMENT.
